History
The whippet derived from England and was accepted as a breed in 1890 by the English Kennel Club. In the late 1800´s the whippet was a popular dog amongst miners in Northern England. They were an inexpensive dog to own and they could hunt small game to eke out the household budget. People also held organized races where they placed bets on their dogs.
